The "Big Four" Journals
There seems to be a consensus by those who have looked at the issue that the "Big Four" journals (JOF, JFE, RFS and JFQA) are cited most frequently and have the most "impact" on the academic community. See e.g. Chung, Cox and Mitchell, Financial Management, Autumn 2001; Journal of Citation Reports as summarized by Journal of Financial Economics; see also Zivney, T. L. and W. Reichenstein. "The Pecking Order in Finance Journals." Other very influential and well-respected journals are listed in the "Other Major Journals" sub-section, in order of frequency of citation. I would welcome suggestions on adding other journals/working papers sites that have been missed, especially those in the area of behavioral finance.
